Hydrogen Child was a five piece band from Shreveport, Louisiana, formerly known as Super Water Sympathy. Its members include Clyde Hargrove (guitar), Chris Rimmer (bass), Hali Kha (drums), Jason Mills (keyboards) and Ansley Rimmer (lead vocals). The group released their first album, Vesper Belle, in August 2011 independently and released their second album, Hydrogen Child, in April 2013 through In Music We Trust Records. They have written and produced songs for a variety of groups, including "Chandelier" on B.o.B's album Strange Clouds and "Heartshake" on Morgan James album "Hunter". The band did two national tours in support of their first album, and have also had songs featured on MTV's shows Caged, The Real World: Portland, and The Challenge: Battle of the Bloodlines. Super Water Sympathy was a featured band on the Vans Warped Tour During the summer of 2012 and 2013. They were also featured at the SXSW festival in 2013,2014, and 2015. In November 2014, they announced that they had changed their name to Hydrogen Child, and later released their debut EP, "Sirens" on June 23, 2015.
Formation
Brothers Billy and Clyde decided to form the band after taking a few years off from their joint musical projects while attending college at LSU in Baton Rouge. Billy had played rhythm guitar in several bands during college, while his brother played lead guitar. The duo recruited their family friend Ryan Robinson to serve as the band's drummer. The three men worked with a variety of female vocalists to complete their group, but failed to find one that was a good fit. Eventually, Billy and Clyde's cousin connected them with Ansley Hughes, a girl that he knew from high school; a few weeks later, they watched a couple of videos of Ansley on YouTube playing an acoustic guitar. They then found a picture of Ansley on Facebook with a snake wrapped around her head and knew they had found the right lead singer. Ansley later revealed that sometimes she felt like they were "stalking her". Jason Mills (keyboard) joined the group shortly after Ansley.
Collaborating with other artists, Recording in London and the Vans Warped Tour
In Early 2012 The band was invited to play a showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. After which they were approached by a representative of B.O.B. to collaborate on a new song together. The outcome was the song, "Chandelier", and was released on B.o.B's album Strange Clouds (album). The band recorded their second album in June 2012 at Voltaire Road Studios in London, England. While in London, the band played two shows at the Bedford club, their first performances outside the United States. The album was produced with London-based music producer Cam Blackwood, who has produced and mixed for Florence and The Machine, Coldplay, and Morrissey. They then went on to perform select dates on the 2012 Vans Warped Tour, which included their first ever concerts in Canada (Toronto and Montreal).
"Uh Oh!" single and tours, signing to label, and Hydrogen Child
On October 10, 2012, they released their single "Uh Oh!" on iTunes. The music video can be viewed on their Facebook page and on YouTube. The 2012 "Uh Oh!" tour ended December 22 in their hometown of Shreveport. It was announced that the tour will continue in March 2013. The tour will include dates at SXSW.
Second Warped tour and SXSW, Line up changes, new E.P., and name change
Before their run on Warped tour began, Ryan Robinson posted on his personal Facebook page that he is leaving the band for reasons not provided. He has been replaced by Ben Saey. Billy Hargrove also left the band for unknown reasons, and was replaced by Chris Rimmer. Super Water Sympathy toured more as a 'post Warped tour' touring on the East Coast in August/September and the Pacific Northwest as part as the McMenamins Northwest Tour. Followed by another five date tour in the West Coast and then the South.
In an interview with the Portland Pick during their West coast 2013 tour, Ansley Stated that the band will begin recording a new album and/or E.P. in January 2014 at Blade Studios. The group plans to have producer Byran Fryzel, a.k.a. Frequency (record producer) - (known for his production of "Monster", Eminem feat. Rihanna)
In October before the band embarked on the McMenamins Northwest Tour, Drummer Ben Seay was dismissed from the band. He has been replaced by Hali Kha, making her the second girl in the band.
In early January, they started posting black and white pictures of the band in Blade studios. Hinting that recording the new album has begun.
In late February, they posted an indegogo campaign to fund a trip to play a four-day showcase at the 2014 SXSW. They succeeded in reaching their amount needed and traveled to Austin Texas and performed at the SXSW all four days.
On October 22, 2014, they announced that a music video for a new song entitled, "Sirens', would be released on November 11. On October 23, Super Water Sympathy embarked on their first tour of the year. The tour covered Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas and their home state, Louisiana.
On November 3, 2014, the band announced that they had changed their name to Hydrogen Child, the name of their sophomore album as Super Water Sympathy. With the new name, they announced that their debut single, "Sirens", would be available the same day as the music video, November 11. Presently, it is unknown if the band has retired or just taking a break. They have not been seen or heard of for over a year.
